Lindsey Hudson - Marketing Manager for Grapes & Grains Store

Updated: May 23, 2022

How many years have you been in the business? Tell us briefly about your background and your current position today.

I have been in the business for 9 years. I am currently the Marketing Manager at Grapes & Grains.

Did you have a particular “aha!” moment that propelled you into wine?

Yes! Back in 2013 I attended these private wine and cocktails classes hosted by Greg Best and that was the moment I realized there was an entire industry out there. I knew I could become an expert in wine. My first and only love.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?

Hmmmm, I think the growth and learning. Gone are the days of the newspaper ad. There are so many and creative ways to market your business! It’s immense and overwhelming. I guess I just love a challenge.

What do you do to create wellness balance in your life? Any particular activity, practices, etc that are meaningful to you?

I work mostly from home, so cleaning, working out and making a healthy breakfast and lunch between projects, calls and e-mails keeps me feeling refreshed. Also a weekly bath! Without my phone!

What changes do you hope to see in the wine industry in the next five years?

I know diversity is a hot topic right now and I do believe the industry needs to expand in that way, but in an overall sense I hope for more balance. A little less drinking and eating.

What does equality in the wine industry look like to you?

It looks like women and BIPOC getting higher positions outside of retail and restaurants.

How do you feel you’re contributing to creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive wine industry?

I think I am just by existing. If anyone asks for help I’m there, but to be honest I’ve had so many breaks in my work I’m just finding my own footing and letting go of a bit of resentment I’ve had over the years.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the same sector of the wine industry as you?

Just keep learning and trying new things!

Name some people who inspire you in the wine industry and please explain why

Icy Liu! That woman is incredible! She could do circles around me and I love watching her navigate this world. There’s truly nothing she can’t do. Also Sarah Pierre, the woman never stops! She’s goals! Lastly, Kelly Mitchell she’s a total rockstar, she’s great in front of the camera and gives me major food envy. Also, all women winemakers true badasses!
